usually have a small sketch book with me, with the high-fluting idea that I'll pull it out and start sketching while waiting in line at the post office, or at other such "down time" intervals. These books, however, are most often filled with grocery lists,; to-do lists and phone numbers of people whose names I forgot to add.
Then again, every once in a while, I do pull out my book and start drawing. Not landscapes or still lives, or portrait studies. I make mostly doodles, and plans for how to build something or other, a table, a necklace, etc. One of those drawings, a hand wrought iron gate, became the inspiration for Rondo.
